A blog post that explores the idea digital products in fashion, inspired by the podcast of Oli Royce.
Product and Design Consultant Oli Royce shared his views on potential future trends in the fashion industry, and one of them was the digital and physical creative industries. The example provided by Oli, of having to make just one digital product and selling multiple instances of it, thereby compounding the profit underlines the biggest advantage of digital products. The process of creating a digital products consumes less materials, energy, manpower and time as opposed to its physical counterpart. This drastically reduces costs. Reduced costs is beneficial to both producers and consumers. Another major advantage of digital products is the reduction in carbon footprint. This is a great step towards reducing the fashion industry's landfill crisis.
Digital fashion is a concept that will flourish in future iterations of the metaverse. With the advent of AR and VR technology, there will undoubtedly be a convergence of the physical and digital space occupied by people. Attending meetings at work or a seminar on the other side of the world in real time without actually being in that geographical location will be made possible, and these possibilities give rise to the concept of a virtual wardrobe. The number of possibilities with this concept is limitless.
