The Employability lecture by Greg Chisholm provided a great overview of the vast resources and services provided by the NTU Employability team.

We have been constantly encouraged to approach and engage with the employability team from the very start of the MA course and this pushed me to approach them several times over the past 6 months. Back in October, I got my UK-style CV checked by a member of the employability team, and it definitely contributed to me landing my work placement. This meeting also introduced me to Prospects and the NTU alumni page on LinkedIn for networking. Before the December break, I approached the employability team for advice regarding developing a creative CV, and used the feedback to craft one over the break.

During the Creative Futures event held in February, I attended the Empowering Ethnic Minorities in the Creative Industries session and found it to be a fantastic opportunity to hear from and interact with the guest speakers. I was especially inspired by Shawn Manning-Dalby, Lead Creative & Stylist at Relic Vintage, who changed careers and is now a successful creative professional. We got an opportunity to have discussions with each of the amazing guests, and the entire experience was overwhelmingly inspirational and heartening.

On the same day, I also got a chance to meet with Gregory Chisholm and get my creative CV checked.

The week following the lecture, I booked a career consulting session with Gregory Chisholm with regards to the path I wanted to take in my professional journey. I found the session to be extremely helpful with specific, tailored advice to my disposition.

The creative industry is not the easiest one to break into. Nevertheless, the immense support provided by the NTU Employability team has prepared me to take up the challenge of finding my place in the industry with confidence and panache.
